Is the Earth flat or round?

At first we thought that we were facing one of those popular false news "fake news", of those articles that roam freely on the Internet, but no, it is not déjà vu and this is not a bad awakening. As we will see, we are dealing with real data on information issued by a survey carried out in the United States embraced by one of the reputed companies in this country, Yougov, which serves relevant information to thousands of companies on market studies and social trends.

So that we can see where we are, according to the Yougov company on its website; Its global community encompasses 5 million people, dedicating itself to analyzing information about people's habits and opinions, offering reports to companies, institutions and organizations, without detracting from the fact that they work internationally.

Well, out of all those thousands of surveys that they carry out throughout the year, this week they have just published a report that stands out above the average, with a main question in the survey … Is the Earth flat or round?

Although we have written about social sustainability in OVACEN, environment, design, architecture and a thousand occurrences, this news, we had to tell it! Y… .

Although it may seem like an obvious question for many people, it seems that everyone is not clear about it, in fact, the young americans, those of generation Y also popularly known as millennials or millennials in English (whose age range is between approximately 18 - 24 years) and who are undoubtedly known for their ease and rapid adaptation to changes, are "practicing" a disturbing intellectual trend. According to disdicic states, only 66% of young people firmly believe that the earth is round!

And now is the time, if you are a teacher or a teaching practice, reply the question to your students … And please, tell us!

Those who believe that planet Earth is flat vary in exact theories, but whether they believe science, the internet, wacky TV series, or religious literature as the basis for their claims, it is revealed that the 2% of Americans strongly say that planet Earth is flat.

And how an image is worth a thousand words … (If someone does not believe it, well from the NASA observatory we can reaffirm ourselves) … Planet earth is round!

In statistics we can also verify that there is an age trend, that is, the younger the population, the more they say that the world is flat, and as one advances in age, it is reaffirmed that the Earth is round.

For example, 76 percent of those surveyed between the ages of 25 and 34 said they believe the Earth is round, while 82% of those between the ages of 35 and 44 answered … "I have always believed that the world is round."

But for whatever reason, America's youth embrace a theory that is archaic, and the group appears to be growing. There is even the Flat Earth Society whose membership apparently continues to grow.

The survey was conducted on 8,215 American adults. Even if globally, there is an overwhelming majority of Americans (84%) who believe that the Earth is round, at least 5% of the public say they used to believe that, but … "Now you have your doubts."

It should also be noted that according to statistical data, the Most people who believe that the Earth is flat are religious. Noting that 52% consider themselves very religious.

Is the Internet to blame for this intellectual decline? Is it the fault of some uninformed celebrity? Is it the fault of some religion? … Anyway, for sure, it is not known, but of course if it was in the administration of Donald Trump. I would do a new youth survey! Without detracting from it, we should also practice it in Spain, just in case!
