How to swing in a house

The Reactor house

The swinging is synonymous with fun for many and even more twist. It is boring to live in a place that does not move or that is always in a horizontal position or in the same orientation, the swinging in a house is cool!

This is a sculpture - a habitable suspended house that moves and oscillates literally in all directions. The structure moves and rotates in response to the movements of its inhabitants, by external forces or simply according to the conditions and distribution of the interior of the cabin.

We present you the Reactor project based on the architecture of the movement A different way of inhabiting a house! A swing in a big way but to live and have fun.

A unique piece of oscillating architecture was recently exhibited at the OMI International Center for the Arts in Ghent, New York.

A project, designed and built by the artist architect duo Alex Schweder and Ward Shelley with the intention of investigating the "Architecture with the social relationship" and the possibilities that a suitable wooden structure can conceive if interesting projects are proposed for a future projection of prefabricated houses.

The Reactor is a habitable sculpture modular where being still is impossible. Formed by a steel skeleton where the floor and ceiling are made of wood, with sides formed by large windows - from floor to ceiling - and that moves 360º.

A rectangle of just over 13 meters long and about 3 meters wide that swings until it touches the ground, which is the way to enter the house (There is no access ladder) with a base formed by a joined reinforced concrete column to the module with a «hinge» that allows the opportune tilting and rocking movements.

I think that to understand the game of balancing what better than to watch a video of those that make you dizzy …

From the plans of the house we can see the uniqueness of the project that at the same time conforms some simple lines of an idea and an absolutely brilliant balancing method.

The architectural designers lived five days to demonstrate that it is possible to have different experiences in different homes without wasting the comfort of the modern home.
