From the original Volkswagen Beetle to a mini motorized bicycle

The evolution of the Volkswagen Beetle to a small mini motorcycle

When last year Volkswagen announced that the iconic Beetle was discontinued after its 80-year life, an important chapter in automotive history was closed.

The Volkswagen beetle, a car that was named with so many names that many enthusiasts in the sector had a hard time remembering; Beetle, Cockroach, Käfer, Fusca, etc. An icon that has left an indelible mark on many generations of drivers.

But the announcement of his "death" did not mean that history did not tell us new pleasant surprises and, of course, there are people with a lot of imagination, good taste in design and capable of reusing parts of those old cars to surprise us with new models .

This is the case of Brent walker, who describes himself as the «builder and maker of varieties of things«. And here comes his art in creating surprising vehicles, the prototype VW Mini Bike, or what he affectionately calls, the Volkspod.

The Volkspod is not a car, nor is it a motorcycle, nor is it a bicycle, actually, it is a combination of the three forming a small retro-styled two-wheeled pod vehicle. And it is, surprisingly fantastic!

The model Volkswagen Beetle Type 1 or the so-called «Bug«Acquired its iconic status from its launch. Its adorable curved frame had won the hearts of almost everyone in the mid to late 1990s. In homage to the Bug, Brent Walker repurposed the fenders to build the Volkspod.

The four vintage fenders come together to form the Volkspod's front and rear lighting system. Equipped with a 79cc engine, the real prototype promises to be as or more dynamic than the Original beetle.

The little mini motorcycle looks like it came out of the 90s. A distinctive round shaped custom frame, with original Beetle headlights and taillights, pastel blue and birch green, and a wide handlebar, reminds us of those retro bikes we ride the streets when we were kids.

We remember two interesting stories:

  • A super luxury car vending machine
  • An underground garage for 12,500 bicycles

Brent Walker's handyman has an Instagram account from HERE where we can see how the construction of the Volkspod prototype has been, as well as all the unique projects he has created.

As a note and a bit of history, the Beetle (Volkswagen beetle) was designed in the 1930s and named 'the people's car' in 1934 by the National Association of the German Automobile Industry …

The "beetles" only began to be produced in significant numbers in the late 1940s by World War II. It was then that it was called the Volkswagen Type 1, although it was simply marketed as Volkswagen. later models were designated as; Volkswagen 1200, 1300, 1500, 1302, or 1303, the first three, indicating the engine displacement, the last two derived from the model number.
