Free course challenges of urban planning: inequality in the urban environment

Course the challenges of urbanism

We live in a society full of cities that, depending on demographic trends, including pandemic in between, are experiencing an impressive growth trend.

On a global scale, more than half of the world's population currently lives in a city or urban setting. Throughout history, the development of humanity has been organized around urban centers and cities. Cities are constantly evolving!

This historical moment is generating a series of changes in society and challenges in the territory, which affect the way of ordering, planning and managing the territory and cities.

Cities offer a variety of opportunities, but also a litany of problems: environmental degradation, increasing inequality and urban crime, poverty, demographic aging, personal isolation, etc. A long list of problems that need to be addressed urgently (See article on how to assess urban sustainability).

This is where the online course on the challenges of urbanism focused on inequalities in the urban environment sponsored by and EHU (Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea), which this year will celebrate its XXXIX edition And totally free!

The free online training (can also be face-to-face) wants reflect on the challenges that urban planning must face as a tool for the construction and planning of the city and the territory. Focusing on two major challenges: demographic aging and gender equality.

But… What are the objectives of the course on urban planning challenges?

  • Analyze and reflect on the challenges that urban planning and political responsibility have to face to combat urban inequality.
  • Analyze the importance that the aging of the population and gender equality have in urban planning (See a very good article on women architects).
  • Reflecting on whether there really is an urban inequality with these social groups.
  • Reflect on the instruments that from urban planning would combat inequality.

The Online training is taught in Spanish and consists of two days (September 14 - 15). It will be live with Free registration in the registration and academic validity of 20 hours.
