The warming of planet Earth is a problem that has been known for many years and against which a good part of people have tried to fight, although it seems something very difficult to stop. Without a doubt it is a natural process that has occurred more times on the planet, but humans are accelerating it and the consequences are already visible.

It is important for adults and children alike to understand this problem in order to become aware and act as far as possible. For this reason, at Ecologista Verde we give you a simple explanation to make it easier for you to tell which are the possible solutions for global warming.

What is global warming - simple explanation

Global warming is the increase or increase in the planet's temperatureMore specifically, the temperature of the planet's atmosphere or air and water rises, especially in the oceans. However, it has been in recent decades that there has been more rise in temperatures around the world. Every year the temperatures increase and this makes it increasingly hot and there are changes in the way we have to live, both for us and for the rest of the animals and plants.

It is necessary to explain that global warming is something natural, that it has happened on Earth more times than the ice ages. The problem is that we humans make global warming faster, causing it to occur in much less time than it would if it occurred completely naturally and this has negative consequences.

Causes of global warming

The scientific evidence that humans are greatly accelerating the natural process of global warming is very clear. But there are more causes of global warming and these are the main ones:

Natural effect

This warming, in fact, is part of the nature of the planet every long period of time, but more specifically it is the natural process of the greenhouse effect that produces this. This effect is a natural mechanism that is created in the planet's atmosphere and that helps maintain stable and adequate temperatures for life, as we know it, to exist.

Emissions of greenhouse gases

The big problem is that people make this increase in heat greater and faster because we make the greenhouse effect greater. Therefore, we make the layer that retains the gases that accumulate and retain the sun's rays, which are those that heat the planet, more dense and thick. How do we do it? Well, through the many daily activities that consume fuels that produce more of these greenhouse gases. For example, manufacturing many products using polluting energy instead of renewable energy, driving a lot of cars that emit a lot of smoke with harmful gases instead of using clean transport, spending a lot of electricity, and so on. The main gases that have this effect are CO2 (carbon dioxide), N2O (nitrous oxide) and CH4 (methane).

Consequences of global warming

Between the consequences of global warming We find the own increase in temperature in all parts of the world, both in the air and in the water, as the following:

  • This climate change causes extreme weather events to increase, such as heat waves, torrential rains and droughts.
  • The poles are melting, that is to say that there is thaw and ice cover is lost, reducing this habitat quickly.
  • The level of the oceans and seas rises, so that the earth's land decreases when it floods.
  • Some species lose their habitat, as is happening to the polar bear.
  • Jungle areas are being lost and deserts are increasing.
  • It is much hotter, so the animals migrate and among those who cannot, their population is greatly reduced.

Possible solutions for global warming

After explaining to the little ones what exactly it is, the causes and consequences of this global environmental problem, it is time for solutions. Raising awareness of the existing problem is essential so that they begin to act from a young age, even if it is consciously minimizing acts that pollute and, above all, something easier for them, recycling at home. However, there are many more possible solutions against global warming:

Change the house light

We can explain to the little ones that it is convenient to change the type of light we use at home and at school, as well as in workplaces and shops, because if we use one that pollutes less we will be helping to reduce the increase in temperatures. You have to change normal bulbs for compact fluorescent ones, LED bulbs and low consumption ones, which save 400 kilos of CO2 per year, one of the most powerful greenhouse gases.

You have to drive less

Although children do not drive, they can be very persuasive in convincing their family members and other adults in their immediate environment that they need to drive less. It is better to use vehicles that do not pollute as much, such as bicycles, motorcycles and electric cars, as well as to use more public or shared transport instead of individual. With this simple gesture, you save up to 1.5 kg of CO2 every 5 km traveled with eco-friendly vehicles.

You have to recycle more

The solution to stop global warming is to recycle more in all environments, such as at home, school, work, etc., is undoubtedly another essential point. By recycling half of the garbage we generate daily, we save up to 1,000 kilos of CO2 per year.

Use less hot water

Although in winter it is somewhat more difficult, it is necessary to use less hot water because heating it consumes a lot of energy. By using a low pressure shower or by opening the hot water tap slightly, you can save up to 3 tons of CO2 per year. On the other hand, it is easier to apply it in the washing machine, since washing clothes with cold or warm water saves 225 kilos of CO2.

Avoid wrappers

Although it is difficult to do without them completely, the packaging of commercial products is one of the main sources of plastics and cardboard. It is advisable to buy those that have few packaging or are of recycled origin and that we recycle those that reach our hands. 545 kilos of CO2 can be saved by just reducing 10% of our garbage, such as packaging.

Reduce the use of air conditioning and heating

It is better to opt for more ecological solutions to heat or cool the house, depending on the season, from using more blankets to opening all the windows well. In this way, the consumption of energies that pollute the environment with greenhouse gases that increase global warming is greatly reduced. 900 kilos of CO2 can be saved per year.

Turn off appliances

If we turn off the electrical appliances that we are not using, such as the television or the computer when we are not watching or using them, we will save a lot of energy and depending on how much you reduce this, you can save up to 1 ton of CO2 per year.

Plant trees

Planting a tree is enough to help absorb about 1 ton of CO2 from the atmosphere over the life of the tree. So the solution is to plant them and, what's more, replant entire forests.

Raise awareness

Finally, children should be encouraged to be part of the solution by explaining this to those close to them and spreading the message, both of the problem it represents and of the possible solutions and applying them within their capacity.

All these possible solutions can be learned by adults and children and begin to apply those within their reach and little by little do more, forming part of the solution that will help guarantee a future for themselves and the next generations.
