When the living room moves to the street
Not everyone can boast of moving the living room from home to the street, in the style of urban lounge and that it really looks good, in addition to winning an award from the famous A ’Design Award & Competition which, among other awards it distributes, highlights the trends in urban furniture that we will see in the coming years on the streets of our cities.
A’Design Award and Competitions annually award prizes on 110 different categories, all linked to the world of design. The awards are open to all interested parties: conceptual stage, prototypes or finished products by professional and young designers, design studios, design-oriented manufacturers and the creative industry, in short, for everyone who can provide added value on the design.
Of the award, among its famous sections is the Street Furniture Design Awards and this year, we have been pleasantly surprised by the City Lounge project.
The City Lounge project is designed by Carlos Martinez Architekten based on the concept of Urban Living Room… An urban living room in the middle of the street of 4,600 m2!
So that we have knowledge of the area of action of the project, we leave a small urban map of the area. New looks at traditional urbanism!
The concept of this project does not distinguish between artistic intervention and urban space design. The idea of an urban living room it embodies the artistic exploration not only of the themes of urban space and public life, but also of the specific features of a given place.
The idea is intended to call into question - up to a point - and through stylistic irony, the common visual habits that we normally consider and are used to as public space.
And if you're ready, we also have other great ideas along the same lines …
- What happens if we combine basketball, design and French fashion
- How to rebuild a church with wire mesh
- Contrast architecture
The neighborhood is presented as a succession of areas dedicated to basic themes and functions of the home such as the cloakroom, the reception, the lobby or the business room. The relationship between interior and exterior seems to be reversed since the exterior fronts of the buildings can be understood at the same time as internal facades or living room wallpapers.
The designers revived a previously underused space in a city lounge, rolling out the red carpet. The mounting of a continuous surface of granulated red rubber over pedestrian, recreational and rest areas brings cohesion to an area of irregular and disconnected voids, slowing down movement and tempting pedestrians to brake, stop and touch the environment.
With its soft shapes and pleasant touch, it achieves amorphous silhouettes on the furniture that represent a deliberate contrast to the harsh precision of the built environment.
An exceptional idea that is consistent with the proposal of the architecture studio Shinslab Architecture who literally planted a rusty ship upside down in the middle of a square or how Land Art is capable of transforming a park with creativity and imagination without spending a single euro with a great result.
