Many times the sculpture moves architecture and they live in symbiosis, but this time we were dazzled by an interior remodeling of an old historic building located in Salzburg. A new and modern dynamic space has grown within its historic walls transformed into a loft groundbreaking that breaks everyday standards. Pure sculpture, art and an overwhelming visual dazzles every viewer.

The Smartvoll Architekten ZT KG studio of architects based in Viene, was named the winner of a competition to design a captivating loft Two-story building inside a former station of the dreaded Panzer tanks, in the Maxglan district of Salzburg.

The challenge was to preserve the history of the room and its surroundings, flooding the room with natural light instead of artificial light, in order to be able to perceive a better spatial experience of the whole house.

Described as "an architecture within architecture", the hallmark of this loft house It is the concrete sculpture that forms the staircase, and that not only opens to all the rooms, but also seems to accompany them.

According to the study… "Through the sculptural staircase that extends to the rooms, the path between the levels is not distinguished as a vertical and functional connection, but rather as a spatial and eclectic experience".

To guarantee homogeneous luminosity in all parts, the studio decided to leave the windows in the upper part free to illuminate the house with natural light (See article on techniques with natural light) from the ceiling and the open night area; the bedroom, bathroom and guest room are distributed throughout the space, as separate bodies.

Under the central concreted part that forms the staircase is the lava stone kitchen, which extends over two terraces. This versatile kitchen unit is suitable as a work, dining and entertainment area. The stairs and kitchen are generously surrounded by the living room, work area and entertainment area, which are closed at the end by brick walls.

The Loft housing It is eight meters high, which gave the opportunity to add a relaxation area, a spa area and a cozy fireplace. In addition, the transparent shower creates the sensation of floating by being four meters above the floor in the center of the loft.

On the lower level, the loft is connected to two exterior balconies, which look like additional niches. The balconies offer what the architects a Zen garden that includes a mound of grass and a jasmine tree.

Through this project, not only was the room redesigned with contemporary lines and functional architecture, but the historic building as a whole was influenced by this visionary architecture.
