Europe reminds us of the standards in Energy Efficiency

Europe urges Spain to apply the law on Energy Efficiency in Buildings

From Europe they are very worried. The use of polluting fuels such as oil and coal will have to be reduced if it is to meet its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80 percent by 2050. Increasing the share of renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency are key in the transition towards a cleaner system with less CO2, says the European Parliament in a resolution adopted on March 14 on the Energy Roadmap for 2050.

With regard to energy efficiency, the resolution highlights that 'the current rate of renovation of buildings and the quality of the same have to improve substantially in order to allow the EU to significantly reduce the energy consumption of the building stock by 80 percent, compared to 2010 levels, by 2050 ».

The European Commission (EC) asks and insists this past Thursday-04/25 / 2012- Spain to apply Community legislation on energy efficiency in buildings by sending a reasoned opinion, the second step of the infringement procedure opened by the Community Executive.

The Community directive provided that Member States must establish minimum energy efficiency requirements for new and existing buildings, as well as guarantee the certification of the energy efficiency of buildings and require regular inspection of heating and air conditioning systems, being that it should It will already be in force since June 2012. Furthermore, it requires governments to ensure that, by 2022, all new buildings will be * with almost zero energy consumption.

The Community Executive recalls that if within two months the Member States do not comply with their obligation, they can be brought before the Community Court.

Obviously from Spain we are making progress on issues related to Energy Efficiency. The appearance of the new Royal Decree 235/2012 "Basic Procedure for the Certification of the Energy Efficiency of Buildings”Is a direct consequence of European pressure. However, we will see what the real application will be in obtaining the Energy Certificate from its entry as an obligation on June 1, 2013 since the political will to date has always been with great reluctance.
