A pink and a blue house to revitalize a neighborhood
The urbanism of contrasts surprises us again and this time it is only the beginning of a renovation project led by the architecture studio Wutopia Lab in the center of Shenzhen, China. The colors of the renovation!
If most people idealize the ideal house for him and her, it would probably have the colors that the Chinese studio Wutopia Lab has chosen for an unconventional project called "His House & Her House", which plays with color and world of living in pairs.
The project arouses astonishment and curiosity right from the name. But not only that. This project, divided into two different but interconnected volumes, is inspired by the combination of various elements and areas ranging from pictorial art to the emotional sphere, passing through the character traits that distinguish men and women as social topics.
The two volumes, in fact, are an integral part of a wider urban rehabilitation and regeneration of an area of Daimesha village in Shenzhen as part of the Shenzhen Biennale. A poor neighborhood with a strong urban plot and density.

With this project, the architects hope to break the invisible boundary between the city and the neighborhood through the activation of an area in urban decline.

Painting with blue and pink has a meaning because these colors existed in the city for a long time to segregate individuals.

The Pink house (in its different shades) it is the color of "her house": the color of sensitivity and delicacy. But also a desire to express complementarity and reciprocity in the duality between men and women.
In this volume the openings become wide and regular, to better communicate with the outer space, but creating connections between the inner spaces themselves like a labyrinth. The curtain that covers the facade of the pink block, adds an additional level of reading, it is a metaphor for feminine introversion.
The Blue house it is the color of "his home": the color of survival and competition. The interior surfaces (walls and ceiling) evoke the shades of blue and green of Matisse's works. The building consists of three rooms, a toilet, a secret white room illuminated by skylights and even a Meat Forest of the Wine Pool, a tribute to the world of cuisine and gastronomy.
With this intervention, Wutopia Lab is not only able to "make fun" of topics, but also manages to gather colors, allusions, quotes and reflections on the human psyche.
