The costs of executing urban actions

We all know that the issue of urban planning is complicated and more so if we go into urban environments from the perspective of calculating the execution of any urban action in shipping.

Here the headaches and calculations are multiplied by 1000 if we want to see the urbanization costs, but sometimes there are times when we need a quick response for a rough estimate, and realistically, we have to be consistent with the answer.

Actually, this article comes from a seemingly simple question asked by a colleague who needed a quick answer to the urgency of a client … How much does it cost to build an "X" diameter roundabout? …

At that moment we began to ramble; "Man! The costs of road construction are complicated, here we have to do a lot of calculations and also many factors are involved … blah, blah, blah."

In the end, we practiced a lot of "blah, blah, blah …" but we could not give him a coherent price in an instant that needed a quick response.

Urbanization material execution budget tool

Well, after researching a bit and of course going through the Construction Price Base, we found that we had a perfect and easy solution for situations that require a quick response on budget about urbanization costs.

We are talking about a wonderful tool provided by the IVE (Valencian Building Institute) called Urbanization Module.

It is an instrument whose purpose is to determine the cost of executing the most common and common actions in urban environments, complying with the regulatory requirements and sufficient quality levels in the finishes. Based on a minimum information provided, and depending on the endowments we need, it offers a preview of the PEM (Material Execution Budget) of the performance.

For each typology, it is proposed as a reference module, coherent and sufficient finishing solutions are contemplated. In addition, the tool is complemented with aModule for singular performances which is intended for interventions in Assets of Cultural Interest or historic centers.

The Urbanization Module feeds on the Urbanization Unit Prices published in the Construction Price Base edited by the IVE. So we have a very real unit execution budget!

The modules that we can consult the unit price is:

  • Unit price execution of vials
  • Unit price for execution of pedestrian squares and green areas
  • Unit price for the execution of roundabouts and roundabouts
  • Unit price for the execution of bike lanes
  • Unit price for pedestrian crossings accessibility execution
  • Unit price for the replacement of pavements and pavements

1.- Module forvials

This module focuses on costs for urbanization of vials and their different facilities as we can see in the following image.

Adding the width of the road in meters will provide us with the unit value of m2. In addition, a descriptive explanation of the games is provided; Pavements, pedestrian pavements, sewage network, public lighting … etc.

Remember two good articles about vials; A free tool for the design of urban pedestrian streets and the concept of urbanizing a road with a practical example.

An informative section is also offered in each module on the list of the usual chapters of a development work, indicating which are covered by the module and which are not directly.

2.- Pedestrian squares and green areas module

In this section he lets us choose between pedestrian square, garden square and green area. In addition to being able to choose the type of facilities and endowments, which in this case are the sewerage network and public lighting.

3.- Roundabout module

It offers a price in relation to the diameter of the same with its corresponding description of the elements contemplated.

4.- Bike lanes module

We will get the budget to urbanize a bicycle lane on a new or existing route.

5.- Pedestrian crossing accessibility module

We also have two very interesting articles about the interactive pedestrian crossing, which really surprised us a lot and the wonderful mobile traffic light.

6.- Firm and pavement replacement module

Undoubtedly, this tool will not save us from sitting down together with the calculator or the "X" computer program and practicing the appropriate calculations, but as a guide we find it an interesting contribution.
