From complex intersections to the simple visual
How boring are parallel lines, roads or simple linear roads with a single direction when in reality on our urban infrastructure map we have a storehouse of intersections vials that can surprise us before a crossroad and shots that are impossible to hit on most occasions.
Urban planning of traffic in the roads or highways is an arduous task that in many cases requires patterns and complex road schemes that from the driver's point of view may seem impossible to understand. This idea wants to be banished by a Chicago-based graphic designer, artist Nicholas Rougeux, who tries to make us discover that it is possible to observe the road intersections synthesizing them to the elemental from an artistic perspective that not only enhances their "beauty" but also, we can understand them.

Known for his work on language and data visualization, Nicholas Rougeux's latest project, Interchange Choreography. Strip the maps of unnecessary elements; landscapes, trees, houses … etc. To show us the beauty of what we do not see on the outskirts of cities such as Moscow, Paris, Johannesburg or even New York or Chicago, among a long list.

It shows us that intersection of two lines or parallel can become a perfect and understandable artistic choreography that wastes beauty if we properly extract the information from the geographic map. (Also of interest urban landscapes and the growth of cities)

The artist has synthesized the geographical maps of the largest intersections in the world -at the moment 60 - obtaining only the view of the roads by means of mapping programs such as OpenStreetMap, to which later a different color has been applied to be able to distinguish the roads(The main roads are colored red, yellow, blue and purple, while the secondary roads are colored orange, green and pink).
How to outline road intersections? …

Nicholas wants to show us that road infrastructure that surround our cities can understand sinuous forms if viewed from an artistic perspective and that in many cases can surprise us or look like objects and even animals.
If we put together all the urban road intersections that he has created from a smaller size to a larger one, we find a curious infographic that shows us the map of the combinations that we will find around the world. The examples of intersections drawn are …
