We often analyze which are the most polluted cities in the world, which cause the most problems, and which represent a threat in the fight against climate change. However, in some cities work is being done very well, both from the municipalities and from the ecological conscience of each of the citizens.
There are cities that seek a balance in economic and social development, all without disturbing the environment, achieving very low emission levels that more than meet the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol, increasingly achievable on continents like Europe.
Ranking of the World's Least Polluted Cities
The ranking of the least polluted cities in the world is as follows:
- Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary in Canada. The canadians have more than enough reasons to breastfeed for it. Its cities are among the cleanest on the planet and that is possible thanks to the grain of sand that each citizen contributes.
- Honolulu, Minneapolis, Boston, Lexington and Pittsburgh in U.S. In the United States, one of the countries that emits the most emissions into the atmosphere, we can also find exceptions. The most striking of all is Boston, as it is a city with just over 700,000 inhabitants.
- Oslo (Norway), Helsinki (Finland) and Stockholm (Sweden). I have grouped these three Nordic cities together because practically carry out the same actions. They are an example for the rest of the world to follow. The ecological sentiment is deeply rooted there.
- Zurich in Switzerland. In addition to being an attractive city surrounded by luxury, it has the odd ecological hotel and its commitment to the environment is more than evident.
- Copenhagen in Denmark. Is the European city in which the percentage is higher of people who use the bicycle to go to work. About 50% do so, which makes the air you breathe there much cleaner.
- Nuremberg and Freiburg in Germany. Nuremberg has been an example to follow throughout Europe for some years now. Something similar to what happens in Freiburg, where we can find an ecological neighborhood called Vauban.
- Auckland in New Zealand. Pure nature is what you breathe in this city located in the Antipodes. It has a privileged geography that is cared for with great care. Thanks to this, it is one of the most recommended cities to live in.
- Katsuyama and Kobe in Japan. In Japan there are also cities that serve as an example for the rest of the world. Despite the considerable buzz there, they are able to live sustainably.
- Vitoria in Spain. To represent our country Vitoria is one of the greenest cities in Europe. In fact, it was chosen as a European Green Capital in 2012, a privilege that Barcelona also sought with little hope of achieving it.
