The house with an impressive mobile terrace

The house that the Sun seeks

The discipline of architecture has always been influenced by natural elements and the Sun has been king. The correct orientation of the construction with respect to the Sun and according to the desired objective, makes all the pieces of the project fit together perfectly.

Yes, in addition, we have at our fingertips technology, budget and we can fit it into the project. The combination is perfect!

From the Polish architecture firm KWK Promes they present us the Quadrant House project. A single family home built in the suburbs with a stunning kinetic terrace that moves to the rhythm of the Sun.

The wish of the clients was a simple, sunny and relaxing house, and that, in some way, will react to the movement of the sun

The architecture studio designed a house focused on outdoor life and as a central axis and connecting link, a large mobile terrace that rotates 90 degrees on the lawn, which falls and docks in the night area (the bedrooms) and in the day area (living room and kitchen)

The idea, in part, was to recreate a quadrant instrument. Historical apparatus used in astronomy and navigation to determine the angle of elevation of the sun.

"With the turn of the terrace the amount of sunlight is regulated in the spaces it joins, giving the desired shade in summer and allowing more sunlight indoors, in winter"

The mechanism in which the building's terrace moves are manufactured and designed by Comstal. A completely automated and silent system - it also has manual control - that has 3 advanced safety sensors; if you encounter an obstacle, the terrace stops, making it totally safe to use.

The movement of the terrace and its speed adapt to the wandering of the Sun which, being in constant movement throughout the day, allows the natural grass to grow under it.

The house is made up of two large L-shaped volumes; The first volume is where the day stays are concentrated, which has a gabled roof that falls onto the street and meets the requirements of local regulations, and the second volume, with a flat roof, is intended for the parking area. night and more private of the house that overlooks the interior garden.

Remember that we already wrote an article about another work by the same firm, the contemporary ark project, a house with pure and robust lines that also has a mechanized system.

The construction of the walls and ceilings was carried out with monolithic technology and the roof truss was constructed of wood. Plaster was used as a finish on the walls; blank acrylic filler and, the roof covering is a membrane.

The white color predominates throughout the building both externally and internally with minimalist-style decoration (We can learn more in this article about decoration) and large windows in the dining room area that face the interior garden.

We want to leave an explanatory video of the design of the house by the project architect Robert Konieczny (It is in English) …

We can access more information about the project from the architecture studio at KWK Promes.
