Noah's Ark Country House Style

When Noah's Ark gets modernized

As related in the Hebrew Bible, Mr. Noah dedicated himself to practicing the architecture of ships on Mount Ararat building a huge ark in the face of an impending universal flood.

Now, from a slightly smaller adaptation, it has been wanted to represent a symbiosis between the Noah's ark that we all remember in our minds with the family and a wide variety of animal species, and the typical barn or rural farmhouse in the Polish meadows through a truly modern and unique architecture that wants to show that we can build houses without hindering the path of nature.

The project of contemporary ark it is called "Arka koniecznego". A house with clean and robust lines located in the town of Brenna (Poland) and sponsored by the Polish architect Robert Konieczny, director and founder of the KWK Promes studio.

Although the story of Noah's Ark reminds us that the possible construction was based on wood from nearby forests.

The single-family country house that we present is built with a more modern material; thick concrete walls wisely combined with a gabled roof that simulates the aesthetics of the purest concrete by means of a synthetic waterproofing system for roofs called TPO.

The house is distributed on one floor in a rectangular shape that opens onto the Polish meadows with large windows using special glass to reduce the impact of the Sun in summer, which undoubtedly provides impressive views of a dreamlike landscape.

The glazing produces an envelope and geometric façade that distinguishes the building. (See also the article a geometric facade)

The house in the words of the architect "is designed as a bridge", that is, given the location of the sloping land and the possible risks of landslides, it was decided to raise the building on the ground so as not to hinder the path to nature in front of the rains and as a security protection.

There is only one entrance from a kind of small drawbridge in the style of medieval castles and in its lower part, the large windows, are closed by a 10-meter long concrete wall, managing to seal the house against any intruder.

In order not to further cloud the landscaping, the architect limited himself to respecting the garden that the meadow itself provides as a leisure area, while it was decided to limit the plot area with a traditional wood-based fencing.

From the distribution of the interior, with an environment that forms a minimalist style in the house, we can see that the day area with the dining room, the kitchen and the living room enjoy large openings in front of the imposing landscape. The night area has been located in search of greater privacy from the back of the rural house.

Of course, the discovery of the remains of Noah's Ark - ship - in that engraving from the early 18th century was an important event, but what excites us most are the subsequent ways in which this symbolic landmark has been represented throughout of history; from playmobil games for children, through LEGO to the most modern architecture.
