Italians win Solar Decathlon 2014 architecture award
We meet again with the modern and 99% sustainable architecture of Solar Decathlon 2014.
As a reminder. The Solar Decathlon is an international competition on sustainable housing that initially began in Washington, in the United States, a few years ago, in 2002, promoted by the Depar. Of energy. In the beginning, the competition was closed, but since 2010 participation was opened to other countries.
This year the venue and organizer was promoted by the French Government and multiple entities that are in charge of coordination (Cité du Soleil de Versailles, in Paris). The purpose is to present projects related to university research, the sustainability, design and innovation in energy self-sufficient projects that work only with solar energy.
As every year the competition is fierce considering the quality of the projects supported by the best Universities in the world. The ranking of how this year has been is as follows:
This year, Spain, also had its recognition with the team RESSÒ, from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the Vallès (ETSAV) of the UPC, has won the first prize for innovation and has been tenth in the final of the international competition for sustainable housing Solar Decathlon Europe 2014.
«Ressò is defined as an urban rehabilitation strategy that reinterprets the way of living, and which aims to solve the weaknesses of a certain urban fabric on a social and energetic level. In this way, Ressò is a strategy that uses a collective infrastructure for a process of social and urban rehabilitation. "
