Gas oil condensing boilers

In recent years, thanks to new technologies and regulations that improve energy efficiency, diesel boilers are substantially improving their efficiency and savings in terms of diesel fuel consumption with new equipment such as thecondensing boilers for houses and our homes.

Are heating installations for the home they offer good maintenance and long-term savings, characteristics that should not be dismissed lightly and that we must try to understand how they work.

Types of diesel boilers

The diesel boilers are those that use diesel as fuel, also called diesel C, and depending on their combustion method, they have two technologies that meet the definition oflow consumption boiler They can be: (We do not enter the standard boilers due to their lack of interest)

  • Condensing boilers for diesel.
  • Low temperature boilers for diesel

Although the trend in the sector focuses on progressively replacing fossil fuels with other, cleaner and renewable energies, such as solar energy through photovoltaic panels. However, diesel boilers have certain advantages, and there are a variety of models to choose from.

Condensing boilers for diesel

It is important to know how condensing boilers work in order to understand your energy savings and benefits compared to traditional diesel boilers or those of low temperature. So nothing better than a good video on how heating equipment works and the advantages of the condensing boiler.

Why are they called condensing boilers

Boilers, water accumulators, heat pumps and other equipment must adapt to a European directive called Ecodesing Directive 2009/125 / EC (ErP Directive) that favors energy efficiency and effectiveness as well as ecological design with the aim of reducing energy consumption. (Recall that energy consumption must be reduced by 20% in the EU by 2022 according to the 20-20-20 objective)

This directive (If we want to know a little more about the regulations from HERE) whose objective is to achieve minimum seasonal efficiencies (≥86% for boilers less than 70kW) that carries other lower-range application regulations that affect the energy labeling of boilers and other types of facilities. So in summary, we find a labeling like:

Consistent with the previous directive, the condensation technology It offers a higher performance so that polluting emissions are reduced and also clearly the user's energy bill, quickly amortizing the initial investment. Also of interest are tips on how to save energy at home with 30 tricks.

Low temperature boilers for diesel

The low temperature boiler They are low consumption and efficient since they manage to make the most of energy and save between 20% and 40% in fuel compared to traditional ones.

They are those equipments whose technology adapts to each moment allowing to regulate that contribution of heat to the requested water flow rate and to the outside temperature avoiding constant starting and stopping. This allows us to make the most of the heat generated, further reducing losses and fuel consumption by reducing gas emissions.

The estimates are that it has a stationary efficiency of approximately 95%, this provides us with economic and energy savings that ranges between 20% and 30% with reference to the conventional boiler.

Remember that although it is called a low temperature boiler, for example to heat the water in a radiator system, it can reach up to 80 degrees centigrade. (We remember the benefits of aerothermal heating and cooling)

Advantages of condensing boiler versus low temperature boiler

We want to see the advantages and disadvantages of each type of boiler with its properties, and for that we already have an excellent article where we can adequately inform ourselves from HERE. As a scheme we add the following image:

Since we are comparing heating systems and inputs to hot water, we can also see biomass boilers with pellets in an analysis where we find the advantages, disadvantages and costs.

It must be taken into account that the use of diesel improves operation, increases the useful life time and reduces maintenance costs (We do not go into environmental issues). On the other hand, using gas involves additional costs, since concession companies charge fixed amounts for meter rental, regardless of whether or not the heating is used.

Boiler performance

Modern combustion techniques make it possible for its efficiency to reach almost 100%, in the case of condensing boilers. In this respect, they are better than boilers that use gas as fuel. On the other hand, the expulsion of gases is somewhat greater, which would not be a problem with proper maintenance. The performance depending on the type of boiler we can see it in the following graph:

Are diesel boilers safe?

The safety of diesel boilers is guaranteed by the following devices:

  • Temperature regulator-limiter: allows you to select the boiler temperature and regulate it according to air conditioning needs.
  • Overpressure safety valve: it is a mechanism that allows the discharge of water, as long as the pressure is higher than the working pressure of the boiler. This pressure is indicated by the manufacturer, and if for any reason this limit is exceeded, the valve will expel the excess water. This ensures an adequate working pressure.
  • Pressure gauge: the boilers normally work at a pressure of between 0.8 and 1.2 kg / cm2. This device controls the normal operation of the system against possible breaks, leaks or blockages of the circuit.
  • Glass of expansion: element whose function is to withstand the pressure variations produced by the increase in temperature, and protects from breaks or fissures due to high pressure. It is located at the back of the boiler.
  • Thermometer: counter for measuring the temperature of the hot water outlet for heating.

These elements, together with modern boiler technology, make the safety level of this heating system quite high.

Maintenance of diesel boilers

Another advantage of using diesel as heating fuel is that its continued use protects the system, in addition to providing better conservation. This means a lower maintenance cost, by reducing revisions and related expenses. Other advantages are worth highlighting:

  • High performance combustion.
  • Diesel has anti-corrosion and bactericidal properties.
  • Better cold behavior.
  • With proper maintenance, there is no diesel smell, which is why they do not cause any discomfort.

Diesel boiler prices

A positive aspect of using diesel is that it is a free market fuel, which offers the possibility of comparing different prices. Regarding the sale price of diesel boilers They are somewhat more expensive than gas boilers, but in return they offer long-term savings, due to the lower cost of maintenance and revisions. In addition, they offer high performance, accompanied by lower fuel consumption.
