We must be clear that in the architecture and engineering sector continuous training is no longer an option, it is a must if we want to compete in a fairly fierce market.
Words like BIM, digital simulations, architectural modeling, project modeling, Revit, etc. Sure they sound familiar, but many of us have not yet started those first training classes to begin to understand what it will bring us.
As a starting point, first we want to leave a video with a perfect explanation of what is BIM (Building Information Modeling) and how it will help us in our projects and daily work.
The NIBS (National Institutes of Building Science) defines the BIM as the "digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of an object«. It should be clear that BIM should be understood as a collaborative work methodology and not as a tool. We can imagine as a process of:
- Programming
- Preparation
- Realization
- Maintenance
I know empowers and promotes the digitization of the construction sector at all levels, referenced to a construction that uses an information model, that is, a model that contains all the data related to its complete life cycle, from design to construction, through demolition and possible closure.

As we have begun to be interested in the subject, we collect you different training platforms and websites where we have found free training in BIM. There are for all levels, from basic subjects to more advanced teaching.
1.- Free digital training in BIM for the construction sector
This section may be the most specialized teaching and where thanks to the Construction Labor Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and within the State Plan for Training in digital skills. We have more than 1,500 places for a total of 13 Free courses related to the BIM methodology for all of Spain.
At the national level, there will not be many places, but as they are distributed among Communities the possibilities of accessing increase. The different competencies in digital training on Building Information Modeling are:
- Introductory course to the Bim methodology. Discover all the general concepts about the methodology, current, national and international panorama, and its implementation in the sector.
- Initiation course for Revit and Allplan modeling platforms. What software do you need to get started in the methodology and your professional practice.
- Basic modeling course in building projects with Revit. Using Autodesk Revit as a design platform.
- BIM practical application course in building projects with Revit. Generate and manage the information of the BIM model about a real project.
- Practical application course in building projects with ALLPLAN. BIM modeling using Nemetschek's Allplan design platform in real project.
- Course Introduction and modeling in facilities and structures with Revit.
- Facilities management and modeling course with REVIT MEP.
- Calculation and design course for Revit facilities with CYPECAD MEP.
- REVIT BIM Structures Design and Calculation Course with CYPECAD.
- Budgets and measurements course with Revit and Presto (COST-IT). Learn how to extract using Cost-It, a Presto add-on for Revit.
- Digital skills course in the construction sector. Manages in a digital environment with the intention of achieving a more competitive professional profile.
- Course on the exploitation of public geographic information systems for building and civil works.
- Visualization and interpretation of BIM plans for facilities and operators.

2.- Free Revit course in Bim Max
It must be taken into account that, within the broad world of BIM, Autodesk REVIT it is the most demanded and used product. Training in this subject will be essential and, from the Bim Max platform, they make things easy and free.
There are more than 15 hours of training given by Gonzalo Ruiz, so you have to take advantage of it! In addition, we have seen that they also resolve doubts, which is appreciated. A small part of the agenda would be:

3.- From Butic with 30 hours of free online training
The Butic educational platform is specialized in masters in face-to-face and online teaching in the Bim sector, virtual reality, infoarchitecture and 3D visualizations.
We have access to the material of the Official online free introductory course to BIM and architectural modeling with Revit in Spanish with 30 teaching hours and online, taught by Julio Elipe Cabanillas (BIM Manager and Autodesk certified instructor).
It corresponds to an official Workshop that took place last August and whose cost was around € 400, so it can be quite interesting! It is aimed at architects, engineers, draftsmen, surveyors, construction managers and, ultimately, anyone involved in building processes. The agenda is:

4.- Free Revit Architecture course
From the Espaciobim website, they offer us training to introduce you to the Building Information Modeling (BIM) work methodology through thirteen masterclasses that you can see online, whenever and wherever you want (computer, tablet or smartphone).

5.- 100% free Revit course
From the specialized training portal Editeca, they have launched a free training in a Revit course consisting of 10 modules. The objective is to learn how to model a basic building in a few minutes, as well as to develop yourself and know the basic principles of the program.
We can start with the training to register on the Editeca website, recommended as it is a specialized platform on the subject!
6.- Youtube-style Revit online course
In this case, we could say that it is not an educational platform to use, that is, it is a website created by Luisa Santamaría who has been a Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid in the Master of BIM Methodology and Management taught at ETSAM, and a lot more industry-related training based on your LinkedIn profile.
The website gathers documentation and E-learning training in Revit based on videos created by Luisa Santamaría with good quality and well explained.
If we want to see the course he is teaching and it is totally free from his website Especialista3d.
Also, in a similar vein, this BIM Universe led by Luciano Gorosito, a civil engineer from Argentina who was already teaching Revit and BIM when practically no one else was. He has a very interesting YouTube channel.
7.- Training with Linkedin
We never tire of repeating it, linkedin is a perfect e-learning platform, very up-to-date and with a lot of material. Of course! We can also learn and study BIM for free with the trial period, which is one month.
We can start with training in Spanish from HERE and so that we are aware of the courses that we can find. You just have to look at the following screenshot with beginner, intermediate and advanced levels:

8.- BIM fundamentals course
From the Andalusian Council of Official Associations of Architects they propose a free online BIM course in Spanish where we find 13 lessons to understand the basics.
They are based on videos, but seeing the quality of them and although it does not focus on the programs, but rather on seeing their usefulness, application and process. We believe that it is a very interesting contribution and that it will give us a good global perspective. We can access it from HERE.
9.- Download REVIT and ALLPLAN for free
It is clear that we need software to practice and that there is variety in the field of BIM and many other alternatives that we can use, but, to be practical, we are going to focus on two:
9. 1 - Download Autodesk REVIT
To download the free Revit we actually have two options:
- The Autodesk trial period REVIT which are up to 30 days and we can access it from HERE.
- There is another and less known alternative that consists of obtaining a student email from a University in the United States (I drop it! Although sometimes, they also ask for an accreditation, but it is not the usual as a colleague told me) and from this access . We register and we will be able to access all Autodesk programs (the period is much longer and varies in being able to use the program during an academic year)
9. 2 - Download ALLPLAN
To download the ALLPLAN free we also have two options:
- The ALLPLAN trial period that does not specify duration and we can access it from HERE.
- There is also the option of obtaining it if you are a student from ALLPLAN Campus, although an email + proof of student status from a University is required here. We can access from here.
10.- Find BIM drawings
Many of us like to fiddle with and play with programs using different pictures. Although we have an extensive article on how to find any block and drawings in CAD, we also include an interesting section on BIM to download blocks.
So we just have to go to one of the best portals where the blocks can be collected to be able to download them from the most famous companies in the construction and construction sector. We are talking about the Bimobject website.
On the web it is reviewed that they have more than 400,000 parametric BIM objects to download from more than 1,400 manufacturers. And the truth is, they look like they are!
