What is ISO 50001 or an Energy Management system? A global Standard for Energy Efficiency. More active than ever!
Since Spanish private companies are among the first in the world by number of certificates of theEnergy Management System conforming to international standardISO 50001. From 2011 to 2012 there was a 43% growth in Certified Companies in Spain.
We believe that now, with the imminent future approval of the Royal Decree Project based on the Energy Certificate for existing Buildings, it is time to know and try to implement in a reasoned way a Regulation that can benefit us all, and without a doubt a quality option for Companies that we are getting involved in both Energy Efficiency and Energy Certificates.
Implementing ISO 50001 also means getting ahead of something that is currently presented as a voluntary option for companies and that will probably become an evaluation criterion on the part of the Administration, clients and society in general in the short term. .
The implementation of an Energy Management System in accordance with the Standard allows integrating within the Management System already existing in an organization, whether of quality, environment, etc., the variable of the management of energy uses and consumption in the cycle of continuous improvement of the organization.

Objectives of the ISO 50001 standard:
- Help organizations to make better use of energy consumption by counting on existing energy assets.
- Implements transparency in communication on the management of energy resources.
- It favors the best practices of energy management and reinforces the good use of energy in the management guidelines of a company.
- Help companies evaluate and prioritize the implementation of new energy efficiency technologies.
- Promote energy efficiency throughout the supply chain
- Promote projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Allow integration with other management systems, such as environment, health and safety.
Obviously the implementation of such an important regulation is not "free" but we do want to stand out from the rest of the companies in the sector. It is a very valid option!
