CE3X plugin. Optimal improvement measures plugin in an automated way
Royal Decree 235/2013, which approves the basic procedure for certifying the energy efficiency of buildings, establishes the obligation to make available to buyers or users of buildings, an energy efficiency certificate that must include information Objective on the energy efficiency of a building so that the owners or tenants of the building can compare and evaluate its energy efficiency. In the case of existing buildings, the building's energy efficiency certificate must include a document of recommendations for improvement. These improvement recommendations will be technically feasible and may include an estimate of the payback periods for the investment or profitability during its useful life cycle.
The new complement that the Saint - Gobain group has launched offers solutions to certifying technicians when proposing these series of improvement measures in the energy efficiency certificate of your building.
Disclaimer: Initially there was already a plugin from the ISOVER portal, but the update of the complement presented in the article corresponds to some important improvements that the technician should know for this 2016. The initial component was only based on the insulation of the facade, not including, for example glazing . The updated version already deals with the entire building envelope, floor, facades, openings and roof. Producing a remarkable change, both in the material options, more extensive libraries, and in the resolution of being able to choose different improvement options.
Two plugins are provided for depending on the version of the CE3X program:
- CE3X version 1.3 plugin.
- Plugin for CE3X version 2.1 and later

The plugin is integrated into the CE3X computer tool for the evaluation of existing buildings:
Once downloaded and integrated into the toolbar CE3X tools, we can see a simple and intuitive interface that will guide us to the most optimal solution. In this case, and taking a residential building as an example, you can see how the sets defined manually by the user previously have been loaded, through the application, and where it is briefly described what each set consists of with its respective rating, in addition to the annual savings and increase in the value of the property, expressed in euros.
These sets can be modified and include new solutions by selecting "Define solution" and through plugin a new set of improvement measures will be configured:
The user can then choose to define the solution through each element of the building to be improved (Roofs, exterior walls, openings and floors), or you can choose the Premium Solution that the plugin offers, and which we will talk about later in this article.
The CE3X plugin allows the certifying technician to navigate through different real solutions, with existing products on the market and with the highest performance for the entire building envelope. In the next screen, the technician can select how he wants to improve the building envelope (Insulation on the outside or inside) and depending on the option selected, the system automatically returns all the possible products for said solution:
We can see, by selecting one of the solutions, its description and advantages it offers. And when selecting the product, thanks to a series of pictograms that appear alongside, we will quickly and visually know its main characteristics.
But if we want to go further and obtain more information about the characteristics of the selected product, we will obtain it by pressing the more information icon (+ i), and even the software of the CE3X plugin Returns the technical sheet of the product to us.
From the CE3X add-on or plugin, allows you to define all the options for improving the full building envelope, from facades, roofs, floors and also the glazed part in which we can select whether to replace only the glass or replace glass and frame:
CE3X Automated Improvement Measures
On the other hand, and as mentioned above, the plugin offers an option called "Premium Solution" (It's free). In it, the different possible scenarios are analyzed based on the building design and boundary conditions defined above, in order to propose the most optimal solution in a fully automated way.
Another feature of the plugin "Saint-Gobain Solutions" is that the solutions we generate, will be automatically imported into the CE3X tool, and therefore when generating the Official Report, the set of improvement measures that we have defined will also appear.

Regardless of the official report, the plugin allows to generate a specific report on improvement measures that the technician proposes in a very visual way, with complete information about the proposed solution, an example of the solution that he launches: 
In short, this application for CE3X It is a good complement for all certifying technicians who want to provide their reports with a quality bonus for the applicant, in addition to its intuitive interface that makes it easy for the user to handle and that in this way they can propose optimal solutions in a way fast and efficient.
