[title2] Does the consumer apply adequate Energy Efficiency? Although we have a high Energy Rating obtained from the Energy Certificate, it is not synonymous with savings. [/ Title2]

With adequate energy efficiency in our home we can save a lot of money at the end of the month, without having to make any money outlay.

Saving energy and in our home depends mainly on its design, the materials that make it up and the construction systems used; but we can also optimize and improve the practices we carry out within, which also directly influence these savings.

To achieve an adequate Energy Efficiency, it is necessary to carry out good environmental practices, which simply consist of promoting responsible consumption habits in our daily actions. Some practical examples can be:

  • USE OF APPLIANCES:

Clean and defrost the refrigerator periodically, the inner ice layer reduces performance. Keep the refrigerator doors open for the shortest possible time, this is where the greatest losses occur.

Completely turn off the television, stereo, video, DVD and other electronic elements, since the "stand by" position also consumes electricity.

Do not put hot items in the refrigerator and defrost food inside it, thus you will save energy. When you cook, try to use the pressure cooker, which is more efficient and always cover the pans to make the most of the heat.

Buy appliances with class A energy labeling and in the case of class A +, A ++ refrigerators, they are more efficient. If you have a tariff with hourly discrimination, use the appliances in off-peak hours to reduce the electricity company bill.

Do not use the appliances at half load (dishwasher, washing machine …) or if you do, set the specific washing program for half load, you will save energy and water.

Turn off the ceramic hob or oven a few minutes before finishing cooking, so you will take advantage of the residual heat. You can save up to 25% of the energy consumption of appliances in the refrigerator and freezer, 35% in the kitchen, 60% in the washing machine and 25% in other small appliances such as radio, television, video, DVD, etc.

  • USE OF HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING:

Do not cover the radiators with any object that can absorb the heat given off. Choose double glazed windows and use some type of sealant to plug gaps and leaks.

Do not abuse the air conditioning in summer or heating in winter, it is enough that the interior temperature in winter is 20ºC and 25ºC in summer.

Take advantage of the blinds and awnings to protect the home at the peak hours in summer. In the winter season do just the opposite, let in the heat of the sun.

Choose a high-performance boiler (Four-Star Rating) if possible, although they are more expensive than conventional ones, the savings in the long run are much greater.

Install a thermostat to regulate the temperature of the rooms, the heat needs are not the same in all rooms or at all hours of the day.

Open the windows in winter in the hours of greatest sunshine, and in summer at night. You will have the house ventilated and take advantage of the environmental conditions to the maximum to air-condition your house.

With all these measures, you can reduce consumption by 30%.

  • USE OF LIGHTING:

Change conventional bulbs for other low consumption ones, you will notice the savings and their useful life is longer. Clean accumulated dust on fixtures frequently, as it can decrease lighting effectiveness.

Use natural light whenever possible, it is a free and renewable resource. When you leave a room, turn off the light, although if they are fluorescent lamps and you are going to turn them on again in a short time, it is not advisable to turn them off, since, although the energy needed to start this type of lamps (higher than in normal conditions ) exists for a very few seconds, which is not representative compared to several minutes of ignition, if it is the increase in the number of ignitions that significantly decreases the useful life of the primer and tube.

Depending on the activity being carried out, the lighting needs will be different, so it is very useful to have electric dimmers for the light intensity, or several switches that allow the lights to be switched on by zones.

With these simple practices, you will save up to 60% of electricity.

  • SAVING WATER:

Installing flow regulators or flow reducers in washbasin and shower taps is a good option to save money, and you can also install mechanisms that reduce the volume of discharge from the cistern.

If you shower instead of taking a bath and turn off the tap while soaping yourself, you will only use a third of the water.

Whenever possible, do not wash dishes by hand, use the short program of the dishwasher. To wash food, use a container with water and not directly the stream of water, then you can use this water to water the plants. If your house has a garden, water at the warmest hours to prevent the water from evaporating.

Do not keep the tap running while brushing your teeth or shaving and make sure it is closed tightly, because a drip can mean 50 liters of water lost per day.

Applying these simple tips you can achieve a saving of 30%.
